Some monitor / computer combinations can have problems initialising correctly. If the computer is not using pin 12 'DCC' (the 'plug and play' facility) then modern monitors with some older computers may either fail to give a display or hang during booting.
In particular some Iiyama monitors when connected to an Acorn RiscPC running 'Select' hang whilst 'loading the ROM image'. This problem is reportedly fixed by the use of this adaptor.
