Wavelength by Gamesware
'A little mindless violence' is how the authors describe this game. It is an apt description. You are in control of a craft flying over a scrolling landscape. With 360 degrees of movement, a speed booster and a fire button, your mission is usually to destroy an enemy base or ship. Since these are usually buried deep inside each level and heavily defended there is always much mayhem and destruction to be had!
To aid you in your ever increasing levels of destruction there are four different weapons available, each one capable of being upgraded to ludicrous levels of power, some missile launchers and one or two other items of interest.
The graphics and sound effects are good considering the age of the game and there is a hypnotic sound track playing throughout the game to keep you psyched up enough to dish out the necessary destruction to your enemies.
Producing a decent shoot'em'up is not an easy task. All too many people think that simply plastering a game with hundreds of power-ups and flashy graphics is the way to do it. It isn't and thankfully Gamesware haven't made this mistake. They seem to have the fun factor just right and the game is addictive enough to keep you coming back for more.
